BBC CoJo on Twitter, currently tweeting about a debate at the Frontline Club chaired by BBC News Director Richard Sambrook, just posted this great link to a pictorial breakdown of the blogosphere.
Check it out via the link… or here’s a smaller version (excuse the looooong picture embed):

This brilliant infographic contains all the info you need to know about who’s blogging, what they’re blogging about, and why they’re doing it. Interesting statistics about the gender balance and the citizen journos/professional split too. Definitely worth a look. And 20% are blogging once or twice a day?! I’d better get a move-on…
Infographics journalism in general is an intriguing field. It’s a whole new complement to traditional reporting, and an innovative way of enhancing the overall news package, by providing readers with a pictorial/digital illustration of various statistics and pieces of data.
Further information about the genre – and how to do it yourself – can be found here and here, and at Alberto Cairo’s great blog, which concentrates on infographics as a form of storytelling: something he calls ”information visualisation in the news”.
